What is “Moroccan” interior design style?
Situated between the Atlantic & the Mediterranean resulted in Morocco being heavily influenced by several cultures.
The most notable element of this design style are the arches. They are seen on windows & on door openings The arch however requires a high ceiling for it to be built in.
The second most notable element are the low seatings for the sitting areas. They are either built from concrete & covered with mattresses or made of wood.
The design incorporates rich natural colors seen on fabrics & walls especially carmine red, warm yellow, ultramarine blue & purple.
Blue & Purple are known to be royal colors and is often seen in this design style.
The walls are covered with colorful & patterned ceramic tiles that reaches shoulder level. Never higher or lower.
The silverware used are made of real silver, copper & sometimes gold.
There’s a great need to use geometrical shapes & florals patterns for decor because images of people & animals where prohibited in the Muslim world.
Arabic writing is also used as decor.
